Apple teases new Immersive Video for Apple Vision Pro coming April 19th

By news@appleinsider.com (Charles Martin) Apple will debut a second short film from its “Prehistoric Planet Immersive” series for Apple Vision Pro users on April 19th.Apple included a handful of Immersive Video experiences along with the launch of the Apple Vision Pro in February. They are 180-degree 3D video shot in 8K, making them different from both 3D movies available on the device and the “Spatial Video” users can create from the headset or the iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max.The original Immersive Video film from “Prehistoric Planet” featured some pterosaurs encounting some young T-Rexes along a rugged ocean coast. The new film, running about six minutes like the previous one, tells the tale of a curious baby triceratops who learns about family bonds deep in the forest.A teaser for it is available from the TV app in the Apple Vision Pro. Protesters close Chicago Apple Store over Palestinian employee firing

By news@appleinsider.com (Charles Martin) A small group of demonstrators disrupted the Lincoln Park Apple Store in Chicago on Saturday to protest Apple’s use of labor in Africa and its disciplining of at least one employee wearing pro-Palestinian clothing items.The protest, which took place Saturday, was peaceful but resulted in the store closing early, with a heavy police presence afterwards. A group called Apples4Ceasefire staged the protest, alleging that a Palestinian employee at the store was wrongly terminated for wearing accessories supporting the Palestinian people, including the traditional keffiyeh.The group, which claims some 300 members who say they are current or former Apple employees, said the firing at the Lincoln Park store was not an isolated incident.”In fact, anyone who has dared to express support of the Palestinian people in the form of kaffiyehs, pins, bracelets, or clothing, has been actioned against under the guise of breaking business conduct’ and creating a harmful environment,” the letter said. One fairly obvious future idea would be a revamped Apple TV set-top box with a built-in camera for video conferencing.Another is said to be a lightweight “smart display” that would gather data from home devices, and could more easily be carried by users with them and docked with charging hubs around the house. Apple licenses millions of Shutterstock images to train its AI models

By news@appleinsider.com (Charles Martin) Apple has struck a deal to license millions of images from Shutterstock in order to train its AI models.Other tech companies have obtained similar deals from Shutterstock to help develop visual AI engines, including Google, Meta, and Amazon. News of Apple’s deal comes well after its signing in late 2022, and is expected to cost Apple up to $50 million.This follows on from news of previous negotiations between Apple and various publishers for similar AI large language model (LLM) training using content from news articles. Conde Nast IAC, and NBC are among the big media names that have allegedly been in talks with Apple about licensing their content.Apple is expected to make some major announcements about its efforts to add more AI technologies into its operating systems this June, at WWDC. Apple appeals US trade ban on Apple Watches

By news@appleinsider.com (Charles Martin) Apple has now argued before a US appeals court that the ITC’s US ban on Apple Watches with the pulse oximetry feature should be overturned.The company has been involved in a patent dispute with medical technology company Masimo for over a year. The case, which doesn’t affect previous Apple Watch models, claimed that Apple copied patented Masimo technology in its implementation of the blood oxygen detection feature in Apple’s two most recent models.The US Court of Appeals has finally returned to the case between Apple and Masimo to hear Apple’s appeal of the ITC ruling as of April 5th. The company told the court that Masimo’s victory with the ITC was based on two flawed claims: the validity of Masimo’s affected patents, and that Masimo claimed it was making competing products. Jony Ive is now looking for funding to jump on the AI development train

According to sources, Ive is looking for $1 billion in funding to get the effort off the ground.This is not the first time that Ive has been connected to an AI peripheral of some sort.
